On your phone
Mature Dating App: Sage Dating on Your Phone, No Download
Sage Dating is a web app. Open it in your phone’s browser and there’s nothing to download or update, and a few taps will give you an icon on your home screen.
A dating app without the app store
If you have been searching for a mature dating app, or a dating app for people over 40, here is the straight answer. Sage Dating doesn’t sit in an app store. You open it in the browser you already use, log in and carry on.
That means no download, no update to approve and no icon on your phone unless you decide to add one. One account covers your phone, your tablet and your computer, so a conversation started on the sofa can be finished at the desk. If you like the one-tap feel of an app, the steps below put Sage Dating on your home screen.
Put Sage Dating on your home screen in a few taps
Log in first, then follow the steps while you’re on the page you’d like the icon to open. Menus vary a little between phones and versions, but the words to look for stay the same.
On an iPhone
- Open Sage Dating in Safari and log in. On an iPhone, Safari is the browser to use for this.
- Tap the Share button. It’s the square with an arrow pointing up. On some versions of iOS it hides behind the three dots beside the address.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. It sits a little way down the list.
- Check the name and tap Add. The icon appears with your other apps, one tap away.
On an Android phone
- Open Sage Dating in Chrome and log in.
- Tap the three dots. They sit in the top corner of the screen and open Chrome’s menu.
- Tap Add to Home screen. You may need to scroll the menu to find it.
- Check the name and tap Add. Drag the icon wherever you like.
Using another browser? Look in its menu for Add to Home screen or Add page to Home screen. The shortcut only opens the site in your browser. It doesn’t change your account or your membership.
Your matches, in your pocket
Here is what you can do from your phone:
- Daily matches
- Swiping
- Browsing profiles
- Messages
- Status updates and photos
- Comments
- Polls and quizzes
Swiping suits a thumb: right for yes, left for no. A poll or a quiz gives you something to talk about besides the weather. VIP lifts the daily message limit and adds chat rooms and private group chats of up to 50 people, and every member can read and reply to messages from VIP members. The features page has the full list.
Keep your phone dating your business
A phone is personal, and so is dating. A few habits keep the two tidy.
- Lock the screen. A passcode, a fingerprint or your own face keeps a curious friend, or a grandchild hunting for a game, out of your matches. Set the phone to lock itself soon after you put it down.
- Hide message previews on the lock screen. In your phone’s notification settings you can switch previews off, or show them only when the phone is unlocked, so a name doesn’t light up in front of the whole table. According to the Privacy Policy, you can also manage promotional emails and message notifications from the settings area once you’re logged in.
- Log out on shared devices. On a family tablet or a computer that isn’t yours, log out when you finish.
- Know what others see. The list is short: a username, your photos, your profile and the nearest town or city. Your name, email and street address aren’t part of it, and you can block or report anyone from inside the site. Our safety advice has more.

Mature dating app: your questions
Is there a Sage Dating app?
Sage Dating is a web app, which you use in your phone’s browser. There’s no app-store download, though you can give it an icon on your home screen if you like the one-tap feel.
Is this a mature dating app for over 50s?
It’s a web app rather than an app-store download, made for people from their 40s to their 70s, so it suits anyone over 50 who would like to date from a phone as well as a computer.
Which phones does it work on?
Any phone, tablet or computer with a web browser. The steps above cover Safari on an iPhone and Chrome on an Android phone, and other browsers usually have an Add to Home screen option of their own.
Do I need a different membership for my phone?
No. It’s one site and one membership whichever device you use, and your account is the same everywhere. Plans, prices and renewals are on the pricing page.
How do I take the icon off my home screen?
Press and hold the icon and choose the remove option. That only removes the shortcut. Your account and profile aren’t affected.
How do I keep my dating private on a shared phone or tablet?
Use a screen lock, hide message previews on the lock screen and log out when you finish on a shared device. Other members see only a short list: username, photos, profile and nearest town or city.
