Compare Dating Sites for Over 40s: Which One Fits You?
SilverSingles, OurTime, Match and eharmony each suit a different kind of dater. Here is who each one is for, and where Sage Dating fits in.
Match the site to the way you like to date
The differences that matter are who you’ll meet and how you’ll get talking.
- Sage Dating
- Made for UK singles in their 40s to 70s who like to browse, swipe and chat at their own speed. It runs in any browser, so there’s nothing to install. A Classic membership gets you started, with VIP and VIP Plus waiting for anyone who wants more.
- OurTime
- A site for people over 50 that reaches the UK through Meetic, the European arm of Match Group. It has phone apps and, by its own account, local activities. Read Sage Dating vs OurTime.
- Match
- Match Group’s mainstream service for adults of every age, with apps and, it says, singles events in UK cities. Read Sage Dating vs Match.
- eharmony
- Starts with a Compatibility Quiz and gives you a matching score, for adults of every age. Read Sage Dating vs eharmony.
- SilverSingles
- An over-50s name whose UK website has closed. It carries on at a different address under a different company, and sign-up from the UK isn’t confirmed. Sage Dating vs SilverSingles sets out what happened.

Go head to head, one site at a time
Every comparison covers who the service is for, how matching and messaging work, what the paid plans add, where it runs and who is behind it. Where the other service may suit you better, it says so.

- Is There a Dating Site for Mature Singles in the UK?
Nine options in one table, including the ones that have no comparison page of their own.
Built for people past the first rush of swiping
Sage Dating has been online since 2019, for UK singles in their 40s to 70s who would rather get to know someone properly. You start on Classic, with a profile and daily suggestions, and you can always reply when a VIP member writes to you.
Other members see a username, your photos and profile and the nearest town or city, never your name or address. The features and pricing pages show the rest, and is Sage Dating legit? covers what the terms say.
Where the details come from
What these pages say about another service comes from its own website, terms or app-store listing (sometimes a saved copy, dated where it matters), or from reporting by Ofcom, Companies House, Nominet or the trade press, all checked on 16 October 2026. For today’s prices, see each service’s own site.
Comparing dating sites: your questions
Which dating site is best for over 40s in the UK?
It depends on your age and how you like to date. Sage Dating suits singles in their 40s to 70s who want a browser site and daily suggestions. OurTime is for people over 50 who want apps and local activities, Match suits anyone who wants a crowd of every age and organised events, and eharmony suits people who enjoy a quiz and a matching score. The SilverSingles UK website has closed. Each comparison page sets out the details.
Is SilverSingles still open in the UK?
The UK website has closed. The name carries on at a separate .com website run by SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc., and whether that accepts sign-ups from the UK hasn’t been confirmed. Our SilverSingles comparison gives the dates.
Which dating sites are only for over 50s?
OurTime is for people over 50, and SilverSingles says the same of its members, although its UK status is unclear. Match and eharmony take adults of any age, and Sage Dating is built around the 40s to 70s.
How does messaging work on each site?
Each service handles it differently. On Sage Dating, VIP lifts the daily message limit and you can answer any message from a VIP member. OurTime and Match say in their terms that communicating with other users generally needs a subscription, and eharmony says Basic Members have a limited ability to send and read personalised messages while Premium lets you swap them. Check the current terms before you pay.
Do these dating sites have apps?
OurTime, Match and eharmony have iPhone and Android apps, and so does the new SilverSingles. Sage Dating needs no download: it opens in your browser, and an icon on your home screen is optional. Our mature dating app page shows how.
