Sage Dating vs Match: Which Suits the Way You Date?

Match is a large service for adults of every age, with apps and singles events. Sage Dating is a UK site for people in their 40s to 70s who would rather meet someone at the same stage of life, and it opens in your browser.

Start with who you would like to meet

Match is Match Group’s mainstream dating service, open to adults of every age. Sage Dating is a UK site for singles in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, online since 2019. If you want a crowd of every age, an app and the chance of an organised evening, Match is worth a look. If you’d rather meet people at a similar stage of life, in your browser, at a pace you set, Sage Dating was made for that.

The details about Match come from its UK site as saved on 4 October 2026 and from its App Store listing.

A big crowd, or people at your stage of life

On Match

The age selector on Match’s UK site runs from 18 to 100, so people of every age can be on it. Match also says that, if you fit the group and have agreed to it, your profile can be shown to members of its dating services for the over 50s or for single parents. It belongs to Match Group, which describes its portfolio as also including Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish and OurTime. Our OurTime comparison covers the group’s over-50s service.

On Sage Dating

Sage Dating was built for singles in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, whether divorced, widowed or never married, and it has been online since 2019. It sits within a network of partner services, so the people you chat with may have joined through one of those partners. The terms explain how that works, and our guide to whether Sage Dating is legit puts it in plain English.

However you like to look around

Match says you can find people with its criteria search or simply browse members’ profiles, and that it sends personalised selections of profiles every day by email and push notification. Its App Store listing describes match suggestions based on compatibility, with shared values highlighted on profiles. If you like a service that does some of the sorting for you and then taps you on the shoulder, that’s the attraction.

Sage Dating’s daily suggestions weigh the age range you have chosen, gender, distance and how recently someone was on the site. They then add what each person wants from dating, from friendship to a long-term relationship, their drinking and smoking habits, their interests and their religion. Prefer to choose for yourself? Swipe right for yes and left for no, or read profiles one at a time. Status updates, comments, polls and quizzes give you something to say that isn’t just “hello”. The features page goes through them all.

What it takes to start a conversation

On Match

Match says anyone can create a profile and get started, and its terms add that communicating with other users generally requires a subscription. The paid tiers are called Essential, Premium and Prestige, and under Match’s terms a subscription renews itself for another period of the same length unless it says otherwise at purchase.

On Sage Dating

Everyone begins on a Classic membership. It includes your profile and photos, browsing, swiping and daily suggestions, and you can open and reply to any message from a VIP member. VIP takes the daily message limit away and brings advanced search, chat rooms and group chats. VIP Plus adds exclusive matches and gives your messages and likes priority.

When a plan ends. On Match, find the renewal date and the way to stop a subscription before you buy one, and read the price on Match itself. On Sage Dating, the shorter plans, from a week to six months, roll over at the same price until you cancel them, and a 12-month plan finishes when the year does. The pricing page lists every plan and its price.

An app on your phone, or a site in your browser

Match has iPhone and Android apps as well as its website, so a notification can find you wherever you are. Some people love that. Others would rather their phone kept quiet.

Sage Dating opens in the browser you already use, on a phone, tablet or computer, so you never download, update or make room for another app. To have it one tap away, add it to your home screen. Our mature dating app page shows how.

Meeting in person, with or without an event

Match says it holds themed events, evenings and activities where singles can meet face to face. Its UK site names London, Edinburgh and Manchester, and describes a drinks event or a meet-up activity organised by Match in Manchester. If you like the idea of meeting someone over a drink at an organised evening rather than over a screen, that’s a real point in Match’s favour.

Sage Dating is an online site, so the first meeting is yours to plan. Chat until you feel ready, choose somewhere public, tell a friend where you’ll be and read our safety advice. For events, clubs and holidays, our guide to where to meet mature singles in the UK is a good place to begin.

Keeping your details your own

Match says you can report a profile to its safety team. Its App Store listing also mentions a Private Mode that lets you control who can see your profile, so read what it does before you rely on it.

On Sage Dating, this is what other members see of you:

  • Your username, not your name
  • Your photos and profile
  • Your nearest town or city

Your real name, email address and street address stay out of view. If someone makes you uneasy, blocking them ends their contact with you, and a profile or message that worries you can be reported without leaving the site. Before a first meeting, our safety advice is worth ten minutes.

When Match may suit you better

Match makes sense if you want a service open to every age, if an app with notifications is how you like to date, or if an organised evening in London, Edinburgh or Manchester appeals more than another night of messages. Its criteria search suits anyone who likes to set the filters themselves, and sharing your profile with Match Group’s over-50s services is an option if you agree to it.

When Sage Dating may suit you better

Sage Dating may suit you better if you’d like to meet people in their 40s to 70s, if you want to try a site in your browser without installing anything, or if you enjoy daily suggestions you can swipe through, with polls and quizzes to break the ice. VIP adds chat rooms and group chats of up to 50 people. Trying both for a week is a fair way to find out which one you open first.

Match Group’s own over-50s service is OurTime, which we compare with Sage Dating on a page of its own. If you’d like a site aimed at the 40s to 70s from day one, Sage Dating is it.

How does messaging work on Match?

Match’s terms say communicating with other users generally requires a subscription, while its App Store listing says anyone can create a profile and get started. On Sage Dating, VIP lifts the daily message limit, and you can reply to any VIP member who writes to you. On either site, check the price and the renewal terms before you subscribe.

Who runs Match in the UK?

Match’s terms of use, revised on 02/02/2026, name Meetic as the company behind the service, and Match Group describes Meetic as its European business.

Does Match hold singles events in the UK?

What is a good Match alternative for mature singles?

Sage Dating is a UK alternative made for singles in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, with daily suggestions, swiping and chat.
