OurTime alternative

Sage Dating vs OurTime: An OurTime Alternative for UK Singles

Sage Dating welcomes UK singles from their 40s to their 70s and opens right in your browser. OurTime is for the over-50s, with apps and local activities.

Choose the site that fits your pace

OurTime is a UK dating site for people aged 50 and over, offered through Meetic, the European business of Match Group. Sage Dating is a UK site made for singles in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, and you use it in your browser. Each starts you on a basic account and offers paid memberships for more.

OurTime brings apps for iPhone and Android, local activities and a larger audience. Sage Dating brings a wider age range, nothing to download, and daily suggestions that weigh lifestyle and interests. Which one suits you comes down to your age, how you like to use your phone, and whether an organised outing sounds like fun.

Put them side by side and pick

The OurTime column draws on its own pages and terms of use, its app-store listings and a Match Group press release from 2017. Sage Dating’s plans and prices are on the pricing page.

Start with your age, then think about your pace

The first question is the easy one. OurTime is aimed at people aged 50 and over, and the age selector on its home page starts at 50. Sage Dating is made for singles in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, including people who are divorced, widowed or have never married. If you’re 46, OurTime is aimed a few years beyond you. If you’re 58, both are open to you, and the choice is between a crowd of your own age group and a circle that stretches a decade or so either side of it. Our over 40s dating page shows who joins Sage Dating.

Pace comes next. OurTime says it sends a personalised selection of profiles every day and offers Blender, a yes-or-no sorter, for sifting through more. Sage Dating gives you daily suggestions and lets you swipe or browse as slowly as you like. Some people enjoy the buzz of a big service. Others would rather take their time.

Picture your day on each site

On OurTime

  1. A selection arrives. OurTime says it picks profiles to fit your interests, location and search criteria, and sends them by email and push notification.
  2. Work through Blender. According to OurTime it recommends 100 matches a day, and you answer yes or no to each one.
  3. Browse and shortlist. You can look at the first three photos on any profile and add people to a favourites list.
  4. Write once you subscribe. The terms say communicating with other users generally requires a subscription.

On Sage Dating

  1. Your suggestions are waiting. They take in the ages and gender you prefer, how far away people are, when they were last on the site and what they hope to find, along with lifestyle, interests and religion.
  2. Swipe or browse. Right means yes and left means no, or you can read profiles one at a time.
  3. Send a message. You can answer anything a VIP member sends you, and VIP lifts the daily message limit.
  4. Find a talking point. A poll, a quiz or a status update gives you somewhere to start.

Start simply, add more if you like

OurTime says registration is simple and that you don’t need to enter any payment details to sign up. A basic account lets you browse the first three photos on any profile, build a favourites list, use the search filter and work through Blender. Advanced search needs a subscription, and its terms say communicating with other users generally requires one. Its app listing adds that two members who have liked each other can strike up a conversation, so look closely at what a basic account allows before you decide.

  • OurTime basic account
  • Essential Pass
  • Premium Pass

According to its App Store listing, Essential Pass covers browsing every profile, seeing who liked you, reading all the messages sent to you and using the app without adverts. Premium Pass adds unlimited messages, seeing who viewed you and advanced filters. Super Like can be bought on demand. OurTime’s terms say a subscription renews on its own for another period of the same length, and its current prices are on its own site.

Sage Dating climbs in the same way, with names of its own.

  • Classic
  • VIP
  • VIP Plus

You begin on a Classic membership, with a profile and photos, browsing, swiping, daily matches, status updates, polls and quizzes. VIP adds unlimited messages, advanced search, chat rooms and group chats, and VIP Plus brings exclusive matches and priority placement. Plans run from one week to 12 months. The plans from a week to six months roll over at the plan price until you stop them, and the 12-month plan ends with the year. The pricing page lists them all.

On your phone and out of the house

  • OurTime on your phone

OurTime has apps for iPhone and Android as well as its website, and it describes a video call option for members who feel ready to take the next step.

  • Sage Dating in your browser

Sage Dating opens in the browser on your phone, so nothing needs downloading or updating, and it works on your tablet and computer too. Add a home-screen icon if you like; our mature dating app page shows how.

  • OurTime’s local activities

OurTime says you can meet members in person at its local activities, and its activities page lists singles outings, dinners, workshops, weekend trips and travel. Its terms list access to some events and activities among the features a basic account includes.

  • Meeting from Sage Dating

On Sage Dating you get to know someone on the site and then arrange to meet yourselves. Our first date ideas help with where to go, and our guide to where to meet mature singles covers clubs, groups, holidays and events if you want something organised.

Look after yourself on either site

Here is what you control on each site.

  • Report and block

Both sites let you report a profile and block someone. On Sage Dating, a member you block can no longer get in touch, and a profile or message can be reported from within the site.

Either way, you can cut off contact with someone.

  • What other members see

On Sage Dating, other members see your username, photos and nearest town. Your name, email and address stay hidden.

You choose what else to share.

On either site, your own habits count for most. Get to know someone properly before you meet, try a video call first, pick somewhere public and never send money. Our safety advice and romance scams guide go through the details.

When OurTime may suit you better

Choose OurTime if you want everyone around you to be 50 or older, if you like the idea of an app on your iPhone or Android phone, or if you’d enjoy an organised outing, dinner or weekend away. It’s also a much larger service. Ofcom ranked OurTime ninth among online dating services in the UK for May 2025, with an audience of about 0.3 million adults, and it was the only over-50s service in that top ten. If a big pool matters most to you, that counts.

When Sage Dating may suit you better

Choose Sage Dating if you’re in your 40s or happy to meet people a few years either side of your own age, if you’d rather not download anything, or if you like opening a conversation with a poll, a quiz or a group chat. It has been online since 2019 and is made for people who like to take their time.

If neither feels quite right

Other names turn up in the same searches. SilverSingles also aims at the over-50s, but its UK website has closed, and our SilverSingles page explains where that leaves you. Match and eharmony welcome adults of any age, and we set Match and eharmony beside Sage Dating too. The rest are listed in our guide to dating sites for mature singles.

OurTime or Sage Dating: your questions

What is the difference between OurTime and Sage Dating?

OurTime is for people aged 50 and over and is offered in the UK through Meetic, Match Group’s European business. It has iPhone and Android apps and says it runs local activities. Sage Dating is made for singles in their 40s to 70s and opens in any browser with nothing to download. Both start you on a basic account and sell paid memberships for more.

Is OurTime only for people over 50?

Yes, it’s aimed at them. Its age selector starts at 50, and it describes itself as an online dating site for men and women over 50. Sage Dating is made for the 40s to 70s, so it also suits people in their 40s.

Who runs OurTime in the UK?

OurTime’s terms of use, revised on 2 February 2026, are with Meetic, a French company that’s Match Group’s European business, and the site’s footer calls it a Meetic network website. Match Group’s brands include Tinder, Hinge, Match and Plenty of Fish.

How does messaging work on OurTime?

OurTime’s terms say communicating with other users generally requires a subscription, sold as Essential Pass and Premium Pass. Its app listing also says members who have liked each other can start a conversation, so check what a basic account allows when you sign up. On Sage Dating, VIP removes the daily message limit, and anything a VIP member sends you can be opened and answered.

Does OurTime have an app?

Yes. OurTime has apps for iPhone and Android as well as its website. Sage Dating works in your phone’s browser with no download at all, and you can add it to your home screen if you want an icon.

How many people use OurTime in the UK?

Ofcom’s Online Nation 2025 report, which uses Ipsos iris audience data, ranked OurTime ninth among online dating services in the UK for May 2025, with an audience of 0.3 million adults. That’s about 0.5 per cent of UK online adults. Ofcom counts visitors in a month, so the figure shows reach rather than the number of members.
