Sage Dating vs eharmony: A Quiz or a Conversation?
eharmony is built around a compatibility quiz and a matching score. Sage Dating starts with a profile and daily suggestions, then lets you browse and chat at your own pace.
Some people like a plan, others like to wander
eharmony is a compatibility-quiz service for adults of every age, run in the UK by eHarmony UK Ltd. Sage Dating, online since 2019, is a UK site made for people from their 40s to their 70s. If you like to answer a set of questions and let a score point the way, eharmony offers that structure. If you’d rather browse, swipe and chat until someone catches your eye, Sage Dating works that way.
The details about eharmony come from its UK website, its terms of 6 January 2026 and its App Store listing, all read on 16 October 2026.

How the quiz shapes your matches
eharmony’s own pages call the Compatibility Quiz what makes it different. This is how eharmony describes the parts.
- The Compatibility Quiz
- You answer eharmony’s questions about yourself. A Basic Member can take the quiz.
- The Personality Profile
- Your answers create it. eharmony says it offers insights on your traits and shows how you and your matches connect, and that Premium shows the complete version.
- The matching score
- eharmony’s App Store listing says you can see how well you match based on your matching score.
- The 50% rule
- The same listing says every profile must be at least 50% complete, so expect to spend a little time on yours.
Sage Dating starts in a different place. You join, add a photo and a few lines about yourself, say what you hope to find, and suggestions start arriving daily. They draw on the age range you want, gender, distance, how recently people were around, what each person is looking for, their lifestyle, interests and religion. Quizzes and polls are there too, as conversation starters. The features page has the full list.
On its About page, eharmony says it has been going since 2000 and counts over 2 million successful relationships in over 125 countries. It attributes “every 14 minutes, someone finds love” to its own user data. These are eharmony’s own figures.

- Daily suggestions
- Posts, polls and quizzes
- A set number of messages a day

Know when your plan ends, and what happens next
According to its terms, eharmony sells Premium Membership for fixed terms of different lengths, and a membership bought through an app store “will run for a fixed term, which will automatically extend unless you terminate your subscription”. In its App Store listing the in-app purchases are named eHarmony Basic, Premium light and Premium PLUS.
Sage Dating plans come in five lengths, from one week to 12 months. Four of them roll on automatically at the same price until you cancel, and the 12-month plans end when the year does. The pricing page has every plan and its price.
Whichever site you choose, put the end date in your diary the day you subscribe, and find the way to cancel before you need it.
Which sounds more like you?
You like a plan. Time spent on a questionnaire seems fair if it means the introductions arrive with some thinking behind them, and a score gives you a reason to say yes or no. eharmony is built for that, and its iPhone and Android apps let you carry your matches around.
You like to wander. You’d rather look at a few faces, read a few lines, swipe when someone catches your eye and see how the conversation feels. Sage Dating suits that, with daily suggestions to start from, polls and quizzes to talk about, and all of it in your browser, so there’s no store account or update to deal with.
Looking after your details
eharmony says it has a dedicated Trust and Safety team, and its terms say it may ask members to confirm their age or identity, which can mean sending photographs, videos or official documents.
On Sage Dating, other members see your username, your photos and profile, and your nearest town or city. Your real name, email address and street address aren’t shown, you can block anyone, and you can report a profile or a message from inside the site. If you’re weighing up what to share, the safety page sets out what to hold back until you know someone.
When eharmony may suit you better
eharmony may suit you better if you like structure, enjoy answering questions about yourself, and find that a matching score and a Personality Profile help you choose who to message. It also makes sense if you want an app on your phone, or if pages written for over-40s, over-50s or over-60s inside a service open to every adult appeal to you.
When Sage Dating may suit you better
Sage Dating may suit you better if you’d rather begin with a profile than a questionnaire, if you want a site built around people in their 40s to 70s, and if you like to browse, swipe and chat in your own time. VIP plans run from a single week, with chat rooms and group chats included, and our over 40s dating page shows what a first evening looks like.
Sage Dating or eharmony: your questions
What is the difference between Sage Dating and eharmony?
eharmony is a compatibility-quiz service for adults of every age: you answer questions, receive a Personality Profile and see a matching score. Sage Dating is a UK site for singles in their 40s to 70s, where you add a profile, receive daily suggestions and can swipe, browse and chat. eharmony has iPhone and Android apps, while Sage Dating opens in your browser.
Is eharmony worth it?
That depends on how you like to date. If a structured quiz and a matching score appeal, eharmony is worth a look. See what a Basic Member can do first, then decide whether Premium, which its App Store listing says lets you swap messages, is worth it to you. If you’d rather start with a profile and a chat, Sage Dating is built that way.
Is eharmony good for over 50s?
It can be. eharmony is open to every adult aged 18 and over, and its site has pages for over-40s, over-50s and over-60s, so it does speak to older singles. Sage Dating is the one made for people in their 40s to 70s, if you’d like everyone around you to be at a similar stage of life.
How does messaging work on eharmony?
eharmony’s terms say a Basic Member can send predefined communications but has a limited ability to send and read personalised messages, and its App Store listing says Premium memberships let you swap messages. On Sage Dating, the daily message limit comes off with VIP, and a message from a VIP member is yours to open and answer.
Does eharmony renew automatically?
eharmony’s terms say a Premium Membership bought through an app store runs for a fixed term that extends automatically unless you end the subscription. On Sage Dating the plans of a week to six months roll on at the same price until you cancel, and 12-month plans don’t renew.
Who owns eharmony in the UK?
The terms name eHarmony UK Ltd, of Altrincham in Cheshire. Companies House lists the German media group ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE as holding 75% or more of its shares and voting rights.
